•  Renewal - Website
With the contract of www.ch-pl.com due to expire in a weeks time, another year has been extended! (current website running costs: £29.99 per year)
During 2011, the purchase of www.ch-pl.co.uk will be acquired - with .co.uk domains being cheaper than .com, this will alleviate some of the running costs of the website

19th October 2010
•  Shout Box - Instant Chat
Some teams suggested they would like to know scores of other games that were going on during match night, so to try and accommodate this, the Shout Box was created!
This is free software, which can be downloaded here. Then it's just a matter of changing the style to suit your site.

October 2010
•  Forum - General Update
Some re-designing of the forum has been carried out - to hopefully make it more user friendly

12th & 13th May 2010
•  Google Maps - Team Locations
To help teams on their travels find other pubs & clubs in league, Google Maps were called upon.
Not only are there map pages for each individual team but also divisional maps and the whole league itself.

May 2010
•  Team Fixtures - Team Results
Each team has their own fixtures page, which shows when/where/who they are playing. Results are also recorded here so teams can see how they do over the season.

April 2010
•  Contacts - Password Protected
After the snow storms, it became clear we needed a central place where teams could get hold of each other. The contacts page was created to display team names, mobile numbers, e-mail addresses & who to contact.
Due to Data Protection laws this information couldn't be made available to everyone, so the page was password protected (only the captains being given access).

April 2010
•  Google - Webmaster Tools
Google offer a very handy (and free) program called Webmaster Tools. Once your website has been verified it will crawl your site and bring back lots of information. The main one being broken URL's, so you can go and fix them.
Keywords, Meta Descriptions, Sitemaps & Links also play a big part in how well your site gets ranked in the search engines.
To check this just type your sites name in to Google and see where you appear CH-PL

April 2010
•  Submit Results - Result Cards
      Currently Under-Construction.
This page will enable people to fill in the result card online instead of posting it. Posting the card will still be an option but for those few who find this a bit old school, filling in the form online offers a quick and easy solution.

March 2010
•  Teams - Pubs & Clubs
Each team in the league has their own individual page. This shows some basic information on the pub/club.
(Location - Fixtures - Results - Captain - players most wins)

8th March 2010
•  Previous Results - Past Play
To keep a record of all the previous results, this page was created.
Look back at the morale boosting highs and soul destroying lows of the season.

5th March 2010
•  Results - Latest Scores
Every Monday all the teams do battle. Here is where you will be able to see the aftermath of what went on that night.

March 2010
•  Divisions - League Tables
This league currently consists of 3 divisions of 10 teams each. With new pubs, social clubs & snooker clubs wanting to join the league, we hope to expand to 4 divisions in the future.
These division pages simply give an outline of the table and a link through to each individual team, where you will be able to find out more info.

28th February 2010
•  Previous Seasons - Seasonal Info
To see when teams & players had their best season, check out the previous seasons page.

28th February 2010
•  Hall of Fame - Competition Winners
To keep a record of who wins the competitions over the seasons and something a little more for players to play for, a 'Hall of Fame' was created.

24th February 2010
•  AWOL Cards - Missing Results Cards
Due to some teams not sending off their result cards after matches, this page was created to help jog their memory. *teams get docked points at the end of the season for missing cards*
Not only do we use the cards to work out the 'Players Statistics' and who's playing at what pub (no players can play for more than one team per season) but also to confirm scores.

•  Downloads - User Documents
To enable people to view all the information we offer (league table, results ect.) you will need some general software (ie. AdobeReader). Here you will be able to download that software - for free!
Also, for league members there are forms for teams that want to enter competitions or the league itself.

•  Links - Pool Websites
This page was created to let people know about the other pool leagues around. In-turn hopefully this site will be added as a link on their site, overall creating more of a pool community.

January/February 2010
•  Homepage - Welcome
The main & first impression people will surmise about the site is off this page. I've tried to pack as much information on this page as possible, without over loading the user. Keeping the colour scheme, styles and general layout consistent throughout the entire site is always a challenge but with the right touches can look quite good.
The only down side I've found so far is getting the forum to match the website theme. As this is separate from the template itself, changing all the styles/fonts in the forum to match the site should only be taken on by the more experienced website admin (definitely not me!)

•  Template - Pool Theme
      Like stated earlier, this is probably the most important part of creating a website. A few options;
Create the whole site from scratch without a template but unless you have a good understanding of coding it will probably look quite basic.
Second is to download a free template. This is normally one or two pages and a few images to give you a head start and some direction as to what to do.
Lastly is to pay for a template. Here you get several different pages, images, fonts and more. With thousands of templates out there, finding one that you like and matches your theme takes some time. I eventually got this template and after uploading all the files to the webspace, the hard work begins!
Some other examples of pool templates I found: Theme1, Theme2, Theme3, Theme4, Theme5

January 2010
•  Forum - phpBB & SMF
The main software to create a forum is phpBB. The drawback is it's quite basic and doesn't offer much else for a communal place. With SMF you're offered lots more functionality like a chat room, gallery, arcade, shop and lots more, all integrated in to the forum.

•  Newsletter - Dada Mail
To enable people to receive information like weekly results, league table & news updates we send out e-mails to over 100 people. Currently if people want to receive these e-mails or stop receiving them they have to contact us direct. Now with Dada Mail you can Subscribe/Unsubscribe yourself. Not only does this cut down admin work it also looks more professional as you can edit the html of the e-mail to match it up with the theme of the website.

•  Domain & Webspace - www.ch-pl.com
With 'www.chpl.com' already in use, I settled on 'www.ch-pl.com'. Web Hosting offered both domain registration and webspace with all the bells 'n whistles needed. It can be cheaper buying the domain name and webspace from separate companies but then you'll have to change the NS records.

December 2009
•  Research - The start of the beginning
First things first, a domain name for the website. Using 123-Reg you can see which names are already taken and what's available. Second thing, webspace. A few key things it needed; hosted in the UK, MySQL Databases, Perl Scripting (needed when creating a forum), and enough space for all the images/pages. Last but not least, a template. The most important part! Just a matter of going through all the free & premium templates out there and picking one which closely relates the theme you want.
